Suzonn Talks India Tour and New Song ‘Baavre Ho Gaye’

The singer-songwriter is currently on a five-city run of shows taking place at different SOCIAL venues

For the first time in his performing career, Guwahati singer-songwriter Suzonn aka Sujan Sinha is heading out on a tour with a full band setup.

Presented as part of SOCIAL Selects tour series that sees Suzonn perform in SOCIAL outlets across five cities, the “Farq Hai” artist’s run of shows kicked off on May 23rd in Mumbai, followed by a Pune gig (both at antiSOCIAL venues) on May 24th. On May 30th, the tour reaches Bengaluru at Koramangala SOCIAL, followed by shows in New Delhi on June 2nd at Saket SOCIAL and Kolkata’s Park Street SOCIAL on June 16th.

Suzonn’s prior stage shows had only one guitarist joining him. He says, “I think this change will offer the audience a completely different experience. The sound is much richer and more dynamic with the full band setup. While my released versions tend to be mellow and minimalistic, the live renditions have a heightened energy while still retaining that minimalist essence.” The setlist on tour also includes unreleased tracks.

This run of shows are on the back of releasing his latest single “Baavre Ho Gaye.” Suzonn says, “I incorporated more authentic Indian elements, utilizing folk instruments that I hadn’t used before. This infusion of Indian instrumentation is what gives the song its unique and beautiful sound.”

While touring circuits have been established fairly well in bigger cities in India for independent artists, the venues are often changing. With SOCIAL Selects, Suzonn performs exclusively at the nationwide outlets in each city. The cafe/workspace/bar’s spokesperson and head of events and programming Vivek Dudani says it’s a chance for fans to “see the artist from an intimate lens.” Suzonn is all praise for the sound quality and “overall vibe” of SOCIAL, and Dudani says they worked closely with the artist and his crew on everything from designing and production to “crafting an immersive experience, we leave no stone unturned in making evenings memorable for him and all his fans.”

SOCIAL takes a “network-driven” approach and recommendations towards the artists they curate. Dudani says their series SOCIAL Selects will bring more emerging artists across genres to the front.

He adds, “Understanding the challenges and ups and downs that artists face, especially in the early stages of their careers, antiSOCIAL aims to provide resources, mentorship, and a supportive community to foster growth.”

Suzonn, for his part, says he’s plotting out more songs to release after this tour. He says, “I’ll be releasing a series of songs, each distinct from the other. I’m confident that the audience will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity. Additionally, I’m considering another tour to cover cities that weren’t included in the current lineup.”
