Indian indie music has ventured into the space of crypto, blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for some time now, with open arms. Bengaluru folk-rockers Swarathma, who have been at it for 20 years now, have never been ones to shy away from the new and experimental. Last week, they hopped on the NFT wagon by announcing two collections via digital platform Fantico.

Bassist Jishnu Dasgupta says in a statement, “We wanted to give the die-hard fan of the band something that nobody else has—and something that isn’t available anywhere else.” Among the NFTs up for grabs (and currently inviting bids going up to $700 or 0.280 ETH) is their ‘Sleep With Swarathma Experience,’ created with their latest single “Dus Minute Aur” in mind.

Going beyond the standard offering of just an artwork or an animated snippet, the NFT experience includes a live virtual performance of “Dus Minute Aur,” a merchandize boxset with a sleep eye-cushion, a poster and sticker. There’s also a ringtone-ready audio file extracted from the song. “To make it that much sweeter, the NFT comes with a backstage ticket to meet the band at their next performance in the owner’s city,” a description with the collection mentions.

A second collection comprises individual NFTs selling as part of the ‘Swarathma Essentials Collection.’ This includes a demo recording of their 2017 satirical single “Beta Sweater Pehno” and a timelapse video offering a look into the creation of the artwork to their 2020 single “Mushkil Mein Jeena” by Aasma Noor. On the art front, the band has also minted an NFT featuring an animated artwork to “Beta Sweater Pehno” by illustrator Akshaya Krishnan. Lastly, there’s an NFT for the story behind the song “Pyaasi,” off their 2008 debut self-titled album. Narrated by frontman Vasu Dixit over footage from the music video, the NFT details the “process that saw a song written about river conflicts being visualized as a story of the water-haves and the water-have-nots.”

With the auction ending on February 11th, The collection item bids are currently starting at $399 (0.160 ETH) for the “Beta Sweater Pehno” demo, $150 (0.060 ETH) for that song’s artwork, $499 (0.202 ETH) for both, the “Mushkil Mein Jeena” artwork timelapse video and the “Pyaasi” NFT.
