We were already surprised when the Bengaluru folk rockers took to stage with a new drummer at the recently concluded Bacardi NH7 Weekender in their hometown last weekend. But whether Moon Arra’s drummer Karthik Mani has replaced Montry Manuel for good is a question that the band would rather leave unanswered for now.

Instead, Swarathma has a few other happy surprises planned for their gig in Mumbai tonight. No, this does not include Delhi electronica artist Dualist Inquiry stepping in for a dubstep mash-up of “Naane Daari.” “Even the rest of the band doesn’t know about the surprise,” says the band’s bassist Jishnu Dasgupta, “It’s going to make it a truly memorable show.”

What we do know is that the band will screen the just-released video of their disco-driven “Naane Daari,” and pull off the Dualist Inquiry remix of the track with a little help from a laptop. “So many people were shocked when they heard electro-dubstep on a track they’ve heard so many times before,” says Dasgupta.

Their next stop after Mumbai is Kolhapur. “That’s where indie needs to go to. We need to show them what a live gig is like,” says Dasgupta. Tonight, in addition to songs such as “Topiwalleh,” “Aaj Ki Taaza Fikar” and “Yeshu Allah Aur Krishna,” Swarathma will perform a few songs from their eponymous debut album as well.

Swarathma play at Blue Frog, Mumbai on December 19th. Entry Rs 350 after 9pm. Event details here
