Jishnu Dasgupta from Swaramatha, winner in last years ”˜best video category,’ gives his thoughts on this years nominees.

Indian Ocean do not need to be win an award to be judged in any category after the years they have put in and accolades they’ve won; which is why my favorite for Band of the year is Menwhopause – because of the way they write music and stand behind what they believe in. Easy is therefore my pick for Album of the year.

I’ve been in love with the song ”˜I become I’ [Sky Rabbit] since the time it was on the Soundpad compilations that we featured on as well. Touring in the UK with Medusa [now Sky Rabbit] was a great experience, and it’s probably because of those memories that makes this song special for me.

Vishal (Dadlani, of Pentagram) is my pick for the male singer of the year, and Pragnya Wakhlu for the female singer category. Anup Kutty (Menwhopause) for guitar player and Ruell Barretto (Bombay Basement) for Bass player of the year, and that is because I cannot get over the simple yet groove-laden line on ”˜Hip Hop (Never Be The Same)’.

I jammed with Stefan Kaye when he came down to Bangalore with the Medicine show, and am quite taken with his chops on the keyboard! Hope he wins the title as I’ve heard good things about The Ska Vengers.

Swaramatha are currently working on a new album, stay tuned for exclusive details.
