The EDM trio ended months of industry speculation with a surprise performance on Sunday
“I am Axwell, I am Sebastian Ingrosso, and I am Steve Angelo. And Miami, tonight we go by Swedish House Mafia.” Possibly the biggest act in house music history came together for the first time in five years to the rapturous approval of the thousands of fans at Ultra Miami.
Despite the evolution of popular EDM sound and the emergence of a new generation of artists, Swedish House Mafia””comprising Axel Christofer Hedfors aka Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso”” proved their lasting power as the crowd chanted and danced to the familiar melodies of the producers’ biggest hits. They kicked off their set with the high-powered “Miami 2 Ibiza,” and kept the energy going with favorites such as “Save The World” and “Greyhound.” They closed the show with an immense encore of “One” to the backdrop of fireworks in the Miami sky.
The show came after years of fan speculation following the group’s much-publicized farewell One Last Tour shows. Despite rumors circulating of their reunion at the 20th anniversary Ultra festivities, the group’s manager Amy Thomson and Angello had released statements denying the reunion.
However, Swedish House Mafia essentially confirmed their reunion ahead of their set on Sunday on Instagram, as friends and associates began to upload highly indicative posts suggesting the trio’s return. Murals and posters featuring a new, simplified version of the group’s logo began appearing around Miami in the 24 hours leading up to the show, dispelling any doubts of their reemergence.
