Earlier yesterday, Netflix teased Sweet Home 2‘s release date. The bloody, alarming, and awful visuals herald the sequel to the colossal postapocalyptic horror drama, triggering all the warning signs of impending doom and its consequences.

In its first installment, Sweet Home was a chamber of horrors when the Green Home apartment’s occupants mutated into vicious beasts, brutally slaughtering humanity.

It opens with depressed and despondent high schooler Cha Hyun-su (Song Kang) moving into Green Home upon the demise of his family. One night, he finds his neighbor next door has unwrapped his food package, while also spotting someone in her house devouring her pet.

When a horrified Hyun-su dashes into his flat, the neighbor follows him, pleading for help since she’s turning into a monster. Residents of the building are promptly confined as more monsters show up everywhere.

Sucked into the catastrophic events, Hyun-su starts to feel monstrous impulses inside of him and knows he is not exempt from the effects. Eventually, he unites with the beast within and takes on the powers of the contracted, transforming into a dominant force.

In the climactic moment, Hyun-su awakens in an armored van to Pyeon Sang-wook’s (Lee Eugene) greeting. He is taken aback to see Sang-wook; we know he could be Jung Ui-myeong (Kim Sung-cheol) in disguise.

Sweet Home hit a home run; its narrative, profound visuals, and special effects, in tandem with jaw-dropping displays and underlying plots, are what keep it so impressive. Its carefully orchestrated swollen havoc and crushing thrills served as the first taste of the ensuing seasons, making it instinctively captivating. There seems to be more intrigue in the second season, which premieres on December 1.

Hyun-su returns in the preview for the date announcement of Sweet Home 2, incarcerated, bloodied, bound, and carried through what appears to be a massive dungeon. “We meet at last. Cha Hyun-su,” a voice says. He asks, “Are you the savior who can end all this?” “What do I need to do?” replies Hyun-su, quickly covered in blood that shoots from above, interspersed between scenes of violent hysteria and mayhem in the besieged metropolis, clashes with the armed forces, and sights of horror expanding. The voice ends by informing Hyun-su and states, “Commencing the first experiment on MH-5.”

With an teaser like that, the excitement can only grow, and an outbreak where humanity meets armageddon is not far off.
