Gangtok-bred, Assam-based rock band Arogya offer up a tantalizing new visual world with their latest song “Broken,” the first off their upcoming third album.

Featuring the band in its steampunk-inspired avatars (complete with masks and a hanging mic stand for vocalist Rainjong Lepcha), the song juxtaposes buoyant synth work with polished riffage over pained vocals. The video — directed by filmmaker Prayash Sharma Tamuly — introduces a fantasy world in which two lovers are lost and separated, with the male protagonist (essayed by actor Arghadeep Barua) journeying to find his missing companion (Annie Hazarika).

The concept of the video and screenplay was the brainchild of frontman Lepcha and lyricist and band manager Janice Teh. Taking things a bit more in-house, the editing and VFX were created by drummer Rui Xing. The band adds in a statement, “We believe in making and presenting our own unique image/ brand with a strong thematic storyline and being fully involved from creation from song to music video.” Featuring glowing orbs and intriguing rays of energy, plus portals (think action superhero film Doctor Strange), the video matches molten riffage as well as Lepcha’s harrowed screams. A post-credits scene shows that there’s more to this story that will be carried forward in their next release.

“Broken” marks Arogya’s debut on Berlin label Out of Line Music, who will release their third album Genesis. The band says they caught the attention of the label after sending out a demo version of their previous single “Dark World.” Extending their German connection, “Broken” was produced by Chris Harms from Hamburg metal band Lord of the Lost, who are also signed to Out of Line Music.

The forthcoming singles from Arogya include “Dust” (out on March 11th) and “Misery’s Liar,” running up to the release of Genesis on April 23rd.
