Chennai-origin music school K.M. Music Conservatory has introduced a new four-week program for independent artists and professionals stepping into the industry at their recently opened Mumbai learning space. The Creative Artist Professional Practice [CAPP] course will be headed by Berlin/Lisbon-based multi-instrumentalist and producer T.L. Mazumdar alongside Mumbai-based producer and mixing/mastering engineer Deepak Sugathan.
A description for CAPP mentions that this course is for aspiring artists and that includes singers, composers, producers, sound engineers, recording artists and lyricists, among others. “[Students] will get to work with international mentors who have gathered expertise in their field through years of experience and association with celebrated musicians around the world.” Kicking off on September 19th, CAPP wraps up on October 14th.
The mentors will work with the students on “creative upskilling, refining their professional presence, both online and offline, along with sharpening their career development plan.” One of several outcomes at the end of the program includes creating a track “irrespective of style or genre.” CAPP also includes workshops with global industry experts and offers a chance for those enrolled to put up a live performance.
Mazumdar — who has spent about two decades in the music world, traveling around the world and finding his sound — will be joined by Sugathan, who has journeyed from his hometown of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh to Chennai (where he studied audio engineering) to Mumbai.
In Mumbai, Sugathan has worked as music supervisor, executive music producer, mixing and mastering engineer for films and series including Jugaadistan, Kem Chho? and Good Luck Jerry, among others.
Mazumdar says of his involvement in the course, “My ultimate aim with my mentees has always been to eventually facilitate collaborators with an authentic approach to all its responsibilities and privileges to help contribute to a meaningful, arts eco-system that helps break stereotypes and empowers fearless artistic exploration.”
With CAPP taking place in Mumbai, the K.M. Conservatory of Music’s space in the city is also offering a Performance Certificate program for piano, guitar and Western vocals. Students from the age of five years and above can join at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level of the course.
