T-Series Song Craft Season 1 Brings Together Rekha Bhardwaj, Hariharan and More

Sitarist-composer Imran Khan teams up with record label T-Series for a new collaborative song series Song Craft, with season 1 bringing in top voices including Rekha Bhardwaj, Hariharan, Vijay Prakash, Mame Khan, Javed Ali, Pratibha Singh Baghel, Anandi Joshi and more.

A total of 10 songs penned and composed by Imran Khan will be part of Song Craft, which will start rolling out from February 23rd onwards via T-Series. More vocalists joining the series include Sanam Marvi, Anusha Mani, Abhay Jodhpurkar, Swaroop Khan and Samarpit Golani.

Designed and conceptualized by Imran Khan, who hails from the Sikhar gharana of classical music. A description for the project states, “Some of India’s most seasoned and famous singers are involved in this project. The goals of this project are to put out interesting music, to involve artists from all disciplines and to expose the audience to a variety of musical influences.”

Each song from Song Craft comes with a music video shot in different parts of India, with an eye on adding an extra dimension when it comes to showcasing the country’s heritage sites. The description adds, “All forms of art such as set design, art direction, painter, sand art, the local artists from shoot locations, puppet dance, costumes, dancers, actors and so on. Over 300 artists are involved in this project.”

In addition to the star singers enlisted for Song Craft, the collaborative project sees Khan assisted by saaz and rabab artist Tapas Roy, sarangi artists Dilshad Khan and Sabir Khan, bassist Akashdeep Gogoi, drummer Lindsey Dmello, flautist and saxophonist I.D. Rao and the Bombay String Ensemble adding heft.

Khan says he intends to create a new season every year to make Song Craft a vehicle for original music with new concepts and voices.
