How ‘Taambdi Chaambdi’ Put Marathi Music in the Spotlight

The vibrant and diverse forms of Marathi music, known for getting anyone to let loose and hit the floor, have always held a special place in people’s hearts.

This rich musical tradition witnessed a landmark moment with the release of “Taambdi Chaambdi” (meaning Brown Skin) by Kratex and Shreyas, a track that gained global traction and appreciation.

The single—released on May 3—quickly shot to the top of numerous trending charts, spreading like wildfire across social media. It became an influencer favorite, inspiring them to jump on the trend and showcase their creativity.

Adding to its significance, “Taambdi Chaambdi” is the first Marathi song to be released on the official channel of Spinning Records. This globally renowned music company has featured iconic artists like David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Hardwell.

Kratex—real name Krunal Ghorpade—made his music industry debut with this release. Celebrated for his popular Marathi house flips, the artist not only composed and produced the track but also collaborated with rapper Shreyas Sagvekar to write the lyrics and provide vocals.

The official music video, released on August 25th, features several content creators, including Tejas Shetye, Manish Shetye, Vrishali Shetye, Ninad Sawant, Akash Salunkhe, Matin Sheikh, and Malhar Jadhav, who are known for their humorous material. “Taambdi Chaambdi” has been well received not only by Indian audiences but also by listeners worldwide. The video has already garnered over 140k views and is on its way to reaching 200k soon.

Reflecting on this milestone, Kratex told Rolling Stone India, “My happiness knows no boundaries, and it has always been my dream to have my music featured on Spinning Records, a label that is home to so many people I look up to.” He added, “To witness a Marathi song standing alongside music from such iconic performers is a dream come true.”

We also spoke with rapper Shreyas Sagvekar, who penned the lyrics for the track while sitting on a bike. He said, “Everyone had doubts about whether there was a market for this Marathi music, but look at us—we’re creating one from scratch,” adding, “People used to tell me that Marathi has a harsh, aggressive tone, but I’m glad they now understand where I’m coming from.”
