If it wasn’t already an unmistakable rap hit this year, Marathi hip-hop artist Shreyas and producer Kratex’s “Taambdi Chaamdi” now has a remix courtesy of Indian-origin American DJ-producer Kshmr.
Kshmr has been deep into desi hip-hop for a few years now, culminating in his 2023 album Karam which featured everyone from Raja Kumari to MC Stan, Raftaar and Kr$na and several more. It was only a matter of time before “Taambdi Chaamdi” – released in May and then in August this year via Spinnin’ Records and becoming a viral hit – ended up on his radar.
The electronic artist says in a statement that he was “moved by the track’s authenticity and cultural pride.” He adds, “I felt this song had a special energy that couldn’t be ignored. Kratex and Shreyas poured so much soul into it, and I knew I wanted to bring my touch to the song.” Reaching out to Kratex, Kshmr says he wanted to give the track even more of a global audience.
Kratex adds in his statement, “My dream was always to have my music recognized on an international level. Seeing Kshmr take this track and reimagine it is more than just an achievement — it’s a celebration of our culture.” Shreyas says about the remix, “The response to ‘Taambdi Chaamdi’ has proven that Marathi music can connect with anyone. We’re showing the world the power of our culture.”
Norwegian DJ-producer Alan Walker also dropped the track during his Pune set on tour in October. while Kratex and Shreyas have been taking the song far and wide and recently took over Spotify Rap 91 Live in Mumbai. Kshmr too is making his way back to India later in December. We’re likely to hear his “Taambdi Chaamdi” remix drop when he gets behind the decks at his sundown set at Sunburn Festival in Goa, performing on Dec. 30, 2024.
