The singer-songwriter recently performed at Rolling Stone India’s Women in Creativity event in Mumbai
The last time we interviewed New Delhi singer-songwriter Tanmaya Bhatnagar was when she released her four-track debut EP Wherever I Go, I’d Like To Be All I Need in 2021. Since then, she tells us that she’s been growing and evolving both as a person and an artist. She says, “[I’ve been] traveling, figuring things out, figuring life out and of course creating a lot of music and poetry to put out and most importantly writing a lot for myself. Being an artist is truly an emotional ride and I think now I’m knee-deep in it.”
Bhatnagar – who performed at Rolling Stone India’s Women in Creativity event in Mumbai this past May – talks to us about what it was like to be part of it, her set at Lollapalooza India earlier this year, her latest release and more. Read below.
Earlier this year you performed at Lollapalooza India, what was that experience like for you?
It was exhilarating in all aspects. Truly was a big deal for me to be on that lineup. Leading up to the festival I was a big ball of stress. Managing my full-time job as a graphic designer and being my own manager, coordinator of logistics, the band and prepping for the gig was not a cakewalk. However, in the end, I was really happy with how things turned out. My time on stage was unforgettable. It felt like I truly belonged on that stage. I will never forget that experience and I hope I continue to get such opportunities.
What was it like for you to be part of and perform at Rolling Stone India‘s Women in Creativity event?
It was lovely. I truly believe that women can change the world – heck they are changing the world right now! I have so much love and admiration for women in this business and so many of them were in that room that day. I would love to be part of all the future events that celebrate women in creativity in any capacity. Performing and sharing my stories with people is always special, especially with women, so many of them came up to me later to interact with me about the songs and it filled my heart with joy.
Why do you think having an event like this is important?
Because these events are so rare, and they shouldn’t be. Women in the field of creativity are so special and brilliant. What they bring to the world of creativity and business is extremely important. And it’s true, when women support each other – it’s so empowering and magical and that kind of support is incomparable because women always come to the table from a place of love and compassion and that’s what makes them powerful! This is also such a great way for us to meet and mingle to be able to support each other and get to know one another on a human level.
What’s coming up next from you?
My new song called ‘Izhaar’ has just been released. All I want to say about this project is that it was one of the first songs I wrote on the piano and I’m very proud of its authenticity. It’s inspired by love and anything that is inspired by love is pure.
