Taylor Swift Asks Fans Not to Throw Objects on Stage: ‘It Really Freaks Me Out’

Swift kicked off the South American leg of her Eras Tour in Argentina this week

Taylor Swift interrupted the “Evermore” portion of her Buenos Aires concert on Sunday night to tell fans not to throw things on stage. “It really freaks me out,” she said, as she gently explained why the act of pelting “gifts” on stage is a terrible idea.

“Because communication means having gentle, healthy boundaries, it really freaks me out when stuff gets thrown on the stage, because if it’s on the stage then a dancer can trip on it,” Swift said. “I love that you brought presents and that is so nice, but just can you please not throw them on the stage. I love you so much.”

Swift’s address to the audience was later posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Taylor Swift Updates.

The throwing of objects on stage has become a dangerous trend as of late. In June, Bebe Rexha was hit in the face by a flying cell phone, an incident that required stitches. Last year Harry Styles was pelted in the eye after a misguided fan tossed Skittles candy at the stage. Country artist Kelsea Ballerini was also hit by a thrown object this summer, prompting her to tell the audience: “If anyone’s pushing too much or you just have that gut feeling, just always flag it. Don’t throw things.”

Swift kicked off her three dates at Buenos Aires’ Estadio River Plate Thursday night. Just hours before she was set to hit the stage on Friday, the singer announced that she would have to move the concert to Sunday due to the inclement weather.

On Saturday night, her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was in attendance. To mark the occasion, Swift changed the lyrics to “Karma,” giving him some love from the stage, singing, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.”

On Nov. 11, Swift became the most-nominated Song of the Year nominee in Grammy history after receiving a nod for “Anti-Hero.” Swift also tied the record (alongside Barbra Streisand) for most nominations in the Album of the Year category for a female artist, with a nod for Midnights. “Anti Hero” is also up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Meanwhile, Midnights is also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, and “Karma” with Ice Spice is vying for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

“I started off my morning by getting the extraordinary news that because of you and because of the way you have supported my album, Midnights, it just got nominated for six Grammys,” she said on Saturday, tossing in some seated celebratory dance moves while at a piano.
