The producer duo tap into folktronica as well as Afro-inspired drums and piano with the Punjabi artist, the first of three tracks they are releasing together
Electronic music duo Tech Panda and Kenzani team up with California-based Punjabi artist Talwiinder for a three-song mini-EP this year and the first track “Heer” can be heard below, exclusively before its streaming release on February 23rd.
Drawing from an old folk song sample, the three-and-a-half-minute “Heer” plays with mystery in the way that Talwiinder is known for, while sonically bringing in elements of Afro-informed drums and piano for what the artists describe as an eerie love ballad.
Tech Panda aka Rupinder Nanda and Kenzani aka Kedar Santwani say in a statement that “Heer” is likely “one of our most intense storytelling compositions yet.” They add, “Pairing multiple layers of emotive electronica soundscapes with the soul-stirring verses of the virtuoso Talwiinder, there was no better way to kick start this year than ‘Heer.’”
On working with Talwiinder, Kenzani says in his statement, “He is one of the most spontaneous songwriters we’ve come across. Tech Panda and I instantly got the chills when he started singing on ‘Heer.’ The whole experience was pretty unreal for us.”
It’s the first of three tracks that will be out as collaborations between the artists. Tech Panda adds, “Apart from a mini-EP that we are planning with Talwiinder, we also have a couple of releases with folk artists and a techno production lined up for release. 2023 was a fantastic year for us but we didn’t get a chance to release music as often as we are known to, and we want to set that right in 2024.”
“Heer” is also the electronic artists’ first release of 2024, following the December 2023 collaboration “Talk To Me Nice” with Indian-origin U.K. rapper Raxstar and folktronica duo Hari & Sukhmani.
For his part, Talwiinder recently performed in Delhi NCR to support American hip-hop artist G-Eazy on tour. He also had his hit song “Gallan 4” (with producer NDS) reworked for the soundtrack to Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starrer film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, with Haryanvi artist MC Square joining in.
