Early next month, Samrat Bharadwaj aka Audio Pervert and Ashhar Farooqui aka Toymob head to China on a self-funded five-city tour, jumping on and off trains between Beijing [where they play at the four-day Dong Dong Music Festival] and Shanghai [where they perform at the two-day Storm Festival]. Bharadwaj says TBK’s show at the Indian Ocean Music Market Exchange in Reunion Island in June led to their appearance at the Dong Dong Music fest. Says Bharadwaj, “We got a fairly positive response from many agents and bookers present there, one of them being Beijing Festival Dong Dong. The festival director Leo [de Boisgisson] agreed to book us for the festival.Meanwhile, the band’s booking agency, REProduce, snagged them a spot to play at Storm Festival in Shanghai, which also hosts EDM artists such as Axwell, Fedde Le Grand, Zedd and hip hop singer Jay Sean this year.

Between the two festival dates, Teddy Boy Kill play at clubs across China with a set including new songs such as “The Only Thing I Love.” When Bharadwaj describes the duo’s visual rig, we’re intrigued, “[It’s] a red screen being eaten up by black bugs. It’s a symbolic reference to the power of China.” While an image like that may be at the risk of being misinterpreted, there’s the bigger thrill of playing to a brand new audience. Bharadwaj says, “Why play safe and be home? We [TBK] have scoured India in the last three to four years ”“ from adventurous festivals, to glitzy nightclubs, conferences, really beautiful beaches and some really fucked up shady club-dungeons. It’s time to look abroad and make a rightful exit, perhaps.”

Following their China tour, TBK will finish work on their upcoming full-length album by January next year. The duo also plays at the Montreal Electronic Groove festival in Canada between July and August next year.
