The jazz rock trio have pushed back their show at the Humming Tree, Bengaluru owing to security issues; will now play Hard Rock Café Andheri on September 14th
In the wake of protests erupting in Bengaluru over the Cauvery water dispute, promoters for jazz rock trio The Aristocrats have called off their scheduled September 14th show at The Humming Tree.
The Humming Tree updated ticket-holders for the sold-out show earlier today, saying, “It’s with a lot of disappointment that we have to announce that we are postponing tomorrow’s show. It’s still not been made completely clear whether a bandh is going to be declared tomorrow or not and we do not want to risk going ahead with the gig at the expense of anyone’s safety.”
Guitarist Guthrie Govan, bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minnemann will instead perform a second show in Mumbai, at Hard Rock Café Andheri on the same day. Tickets priced at Rs 2,000 (including Rs 1,000 cover charge) will go on sale today. The Aristocrats’ Bengaluru show is now scheduled for Monday, September 19th. The Humming Tree post also stated that anyone looking to refund their tickets can write to them.
The news of a rejigged tour schedule comes just a day after the band made their India debut playing to a full house at Kolkata series The Festival on September 12th. The Aristocrats are also confirmed to play sold-out shows at Sitara Studio in Mumbai on September 16th and at Hard Rock Café in New Delhi on September 18th. Bassist Beller told us ahead of their India tour, “It [India] is twice as difficult as any other country. But no, everywhere we go, the first time that we play that country, it’s always a bit of an interesting booking process because some promoter has to step up and take the risk to bring us to the country.”
