Surviving bandmates, drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger, reunite after 15 years for ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ benefit performance
In a fitting tribute to their former bandmate Ray Manzarek, surviving members of rock titans The Doors will reunite after more than a decade for a performance at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood on February 12th, which would have marked Manzarek’s 76th birthday. Manzarek, who was one of the founding members, passed away at the age of 74 when he succumbed to bile duct cancer in 2013.
Doors drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger will also be joined by an all-star cast of musicians that includes keyboardist Rami Jaffee [who has previously collaborated with the likes of the Wallflowers, Foo Fighters and Stone Sour] Stone Temple Pilots’ bassist Robert Deleo, Jane’s Addiction’s drummer Stephen Perkins, as part of the ”˜Stand Up To Cancer’ benefit concert.
The tribute, along with other plans of a Densmore-Krieger reunion have been in the works for years now; most recently Krieger said to Billboard in 2015: “There’ll be something cool happening. I can’t say exactly what yet, but we never did get our tribute to Ray thing going, so it’ll be part of that, for sure, and probably for Jim [Morrison], too.”
