His body of work makes it abundantly clear that Jung plays unorthodox roles. He unequivocally captures the core of the character when you watch him perform, as any artist worth his salt will concede. By breaking free of the character and employing himself, I suppose Jung pulls it off flawlessly. He has routinely gained adulation and accolades for his insightful depictions, as is apparent by the list of my top five dramas featuring him below.

Prison Playbook (2017)

The lives of prisoners, their families, and the obligations of officers who work in the facilities are the subject of this engaging television series. I dig Jung’s character in the drama a smidge more, even though it mostly focuses on a baseball hero who was found guilty of assault while protecting his sister from a sexual attack. Jung portrayed the commanding officer, Yoo Jeong-woo (also known as Captain Yoo), who was accused of killing his colleague after abusing him. The actor received rapturous praise for this role. He executed an excellent job of impersonating Captain Yoo, someone he wasn’t in reality. Based on how efficiently he handled the challenging imprisonment conditions and the slow evolution of his character up until he finally adapted, I vouch for this.

Something in the Rain (2018)

When the younger brother of a single working woman’s best friend returns from abroad, they reunite and form an intimate connection. The drama explores their meeting, adjusting to their age differences, and eventually gathering the courage to publicly confess their love. As Seo Joon-hee, a character animator at a video game business, in Something in the Rain, Jung’s talent blossomed into a breakthrough leading role. In the days that followed the broadcast, Jung’s fame significantly increased internationally.

One Spring Night (2019)

The key aspect of Jung is that he is excellent at personifying anyone, but he truly shines when he is interacting with the heroine. He excels at instinctive acting and commands an unmatched screen presence. This is what grabs the audience’s attention every time he shows up on the screen. The romantic drama One Spring Night brought this to my attention once more. The story revolves around a 30-something couple who have been together for a long time. They start to see their relationship differently, though, when they begin to speak about marriage, especially after Yoo Ji-ho (Jung), a pharmacist and single parent, enters the picture.

Snowdrop (2021)

A freshman from Hosu Women’s University struggles heroically to hide a wounded man from his attackers and treat his wounds. The guy is a North Korean agent named Lim Soo-ho (Jung), who has been assigned a mission in South Korea. She is ignorant of the man’s reality, which may jeopardize the safety of her family. But as they get closer, they realize they need to work things out as a team.

Jung had a highly intense and outstanding performance in the part. His immaculate performance underscores how an actor must strive hard to stand out. It is essential to address his words, approach, and attitude. The most crucial thing is for him to hone his cognitive skills and increase his capacity to connect with both his acts and audiences—a fitting assessment of Jung, an exceptionally great Korean star.

D.P. (2021)

D.P. sets its attention on a squad of Korean military officers who are hunting down fugitives. The show highlights the terrible reality recruits must cope with while completing their required military service. In this acclaimed military fiction drama, Jung received distinctions for playing the role of Private An Jun-ho, who is tasked with apprehending army deserters—a character markedly different from his previous portrayals. He’ll reprise both his role and his escapades in the second season of the drama.
