Dirge, Viveick Rajagopalan, Shipperman Win Big at The Indies Awards

Singer-songwriter Inga, guitarist-composer Chirag Todi have also bagged awards across 26 categories at the fourth edition

Doom metallers Dirge, percussionist-producer Viveick Rajagopalan’s hip-hop act Ta Dhom Project and singer-songwriter Shipperman won multiple awards at The Indies.

The Indies Awards, instated to celebrate independent music from India and beyond, announced winners for its fourth edition, from releases between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023.

With a jury comprising music industry stalwarts such as Brian Tellis, Narendra Kusnur, Suraj Jagan, Uday Benegal, Ash Chandler, Theja Meru, Atul Churamani, sound engineer Phil Dane and more, The Indies marked their fourth edition with winners announced on Instagram.

Across 26 categories, Dirge’s self-titled album took home four awards – Metal/Hardcore Song Of The Year (“Hollow”), Metal/Hardcore Album Of The Year, Artwork Of The Year (by Bengaluru illustrator Acid Toad aka Gaurav Basu) and Drummer Of The Year (Aryaman Chatterji).

Next with a high haul of Indies awards was Rajagopalan’s Ta Dhom Project with three nods for Album Of The Year, Hip-Hop/Rap Song Of The Year (“Get Up and Dance”) and Hip-Hop/Rap Album Of The Year (Ta Dhom Project).

Shipperman, the alternative/singer-songwriter project of Mumbai-based Sunneith Revankar also picked up three awards at The Indies fourth edition – Song Of The Year (“Roju”), Male Vocalist Of The Year (Revankar) and Producer Of The Year (Revankar, Siddharth Basrur and Shezan Shaikh, for the EP Hymns for the Drunk).

Desi bass producer Bandish Projekt aka Mayur Narvekar and singer-songwriter Inga each got two awards across different levels, with Bandish Projekt’s “Dakla 7” winning Folk-Fusion Song Of The Year and Music Video Of The Year. Inga, for her part, won Female Vocalist Of The Year and Best Emerging Artist.

Ahmedabad guitarist-composer Chirag Todi’s song “Spiced Lemonade” with singer-songwriter and actor Dot. ended up winning the artist two awards at The Indies – Pop Song Of The Year and Guitarist Of The Year.
