Watch the Killers Cover Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Maps’ at Gov Ball

Ahead of band's Hot Fuss 25th anniversary shows, Brandon Flowers and company honor another 2003 classic released one week before "Mr. Brightside"

As the Killers prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hot Fuss this summer at a Las Vegas residency, the band paid tribute to another early 2000s classic Saturday during their Governors Ball headlining set with a cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps.”

Following a performance of their own “Runaways,” Brandon Flowers and company served up an acoustic, abbreviated version of the Fever to Tell track that was released as a single in 2003 just one week before the Killers dropped “Mr. Brightside.”

As NME notes, the Killers previously paid tribute to a New York-based, early 2000s band — in this case, Interpol and their track “Obstacle 1” — when the group headlined Gov Ball in 2016.

The night before this year’s Gov Ball performance, the Killers played a warm-up show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, a considerably smaller venue that the arenas and festival main stages the band frequents on their tours the past few decades. Perhaps to prepare for the coming Vegas residency, the Killers dusted off Hot Fuss’ “Andy, You’re a Star” for the first time live for the first time in 2018.

The Killers’ Hot Fuss 25th anniversary shows at Las Vegas’  The Colosseum at Caesars Palace kick off August 14, with eight shows currently scheduled throughout that month. Before that, the group will embark on a European tour next week before returning stateside for headlining sets at both Chicago’s Lollapalooza and San Francisco’s Outside Lands festivals.
