The Lightyears Explode, Tapas and Vikalp Sharma to Headline VCET’s Fest Octaves

The event takes place this weekend at the college campus in Vasai

This coming weekend will see a bunch of college bands go head to head to win bragging rights and a cash prize at Vasai’s Vidyavardhini College of Engineering and Technology’s cultural festival Octaves. The winning band will also have the opportunity to open for notable indie artists such as Mumbai rockers The Lightyears Explode, contemporary rock outfit Tapas and composer Vikalp Sharma (from alt-rock band Daira) on February 15th at the college campus.

In a collective statement, The Lightyears Explode said, “As a band that started out playing in that [college] circuit it helped us a lot. We learned how to play, set up and change over very quick, play to new audiences on bigger stages and the money we got helped make our first recordings.” Sharma adds, “Go out and do whatever it takes to play as many college festivals and band competitions. This is what will give you the experience of being under pressure and eventually break you free.”

The Student Council organizing Octaves tells us that this year they are doing things differently and are making it more inclusive to more genres of music. “We’re trying to reach a wider audience, trying to make Octaves bigger and better,” the Student Council said in a statement.
