The New Delhi-based band’s new record titled ‘Aalas Ka Pedh’ is a collection of pop-rock tunes that they have been working on for over three years
It seems things such as starting from scratch in a new city or spending all your hard-earned gig money of seven years on videos stop mattering when you finally have an album to boast of. Raman Negi, vocalist of New Delhi pop-rock band The Local Train, couldn’t be more ecstatic when he tells us how all their hard work is finally paying off. He says, “For the past many years, we have investing all the money we made into making videos as we feel that is the way forward for any band to get noticed.”
The Local Train was formed in 2008 by a bunch of college students who lived in Chandigarh and Panchkula. Over the years, Negi as well as all the other members – Paras Thakur [lead/acoustic guitar], Ramit Mehra [bass] and Sahil Sarin [drums] — moved to New Delhi to pursue music full time. The band now have four slick videos to their credit, not to mention a brand new album and a long, multi-city tour. The album, which is titled Aalas Ka Pedh, is a product of all what the boys have been up to over the past three years. Says Negi, “We’ve been working on our debut album for a long time, and that justifies the title, you see.”  Aalas Ka Pedh features nine tracks, including “Bandey,” “Yeh Zindagi,” “Kaise Jiyun” and “Aoge Tum Kabhi”, all of which were released as videos over the past eight months. The resultant exposure has made The Local Train quite a hit on the college festival circuit. Says Negi, “We are booked for the next two months. We’re performing everywhere, from BITS Pilani to IIT Kanpur.” For their live shows, the band likes to play a set that has both originals and covers. “We love Lucky Ali and AR Rahman so we perform their songs; college students love tracks like ”˜Dil Se’ and ”˜Tere Mere Saath.’”
The Local Train have been on tour since September 3, having played gigs in Gurgaon, Manali and Chandigarh so far. Their next stop is Hyderabad where they will perform at Hard Rock Café.
