Mumbai hardcore punk band, The Riot Peddlers are currently in the midst of change, making their debut in Delhi with two gigs on the same day. The band opens the evening at the Loudest Gig, following which they run over to compete at the third leg of Delhi Indie Night: a battle of the bands competition at Café 27, also on April 20th. “We’re going to play a 20-25 minute set of around nine songs at both gigs. We don’t have plans to do anything else in Delhi anyway,” says vocalist and guitarist Arun S Ravi.

That’s not all, though. The band’s bassist Animesh Das left two weeks ago, after playing his last gig at the inaugural edition of BOMB Thursdays last month. “We haven’t been playing a lot, and he [Das] has been jamming more with [black metal band] Solar Deity, so he wants to concentrate on that,” says Ravi. The band have a replacement bassist in former Devoid bassist Frank Pawar. This isn’t the first time that Pawar performs with the Riot Peddlers. “He actually sang and recorded bass on one of our first songs, ”˜Sau Rupiya’,” says Ravi.

The Riot Peddlers will perform with The Lightyears Explode [who launch their album, The Revenge Of Kalicharan] and alt punk band BLEK, who also make their Delhi debut with this gig, alongwith Delhi bands, The Circus and The Vinyl Records at The Loudest Gig at Verve on April 20th. “Delhi has never seen these bands and they deserve to see some other shit apart from Dualist Inquiry,” says ennui.BOMB head and gig organizer Rishu Singh. In true punk spirit, Ravi is quick to add, “We don’t want to get popular or anything. The only reason we’re doing two gigs in Delhi is because it’s a chance to play to two different audiences.”

When The Riot Peddlers return from the capital, they play at BOMB Thursdays on April 25th at Kino 108 in Mumbai with alt rockers Split and punk rock act Punk on Toast. Ravi and Dutt will begin work on their second EP soon after the series of gigs.

The Riot Peddlers, BLEK, The Lightyears Explode, The Circus and The Vinyl Records play at the Loudest Gig in Delhi at Verve on April 20th, 2013, 8pm onwards. Entry: Rs 300. Event details here.

The Riot Peddlers also play at Delhi Indie Night: Battle of the Bands on April 20th, 2013 with The Incredible Mindfunk, The Last Puff, The F16’s and Tarik. Venue: Café 27. Free entry. Event details here.
