The Runway Release New Synth-Pop Single ‘Find Me Find You’
The Nagaland outfit’s upbeat and fresh track is about online relationships
Hailing from musical backgrounds to playing in churches and small events, Nagaland-based vocalist-guitarist Thungdemo Ezung, guitarist Ahoka Shohe, bassist Zibemo Merry and drummer Nzanthung Odyuo officially got together in 2019 to kickstart synth-pop group The Runway. Around the same time, the band released their debut single, “A Ballad For You,” before taking a three-year hiatus. Now, The Runway are back with their sophomore single, the pop-rock meets synth-pop offering “Find Me Find You.”
The band began working on the new song in mid-2021. Ezung says, “The story behind this song is about online relationships. I wrote the song for a girl I know who lives in the U.S. It highlights ideas such as only knowing and seeing someone through the screen, difference in cultures, differences in love, someone being so close to you yet so far, and about how in time they’re the only one that is keeping you sane.”
Sonically, the band deliver a buoyant track filled with glitzy guitar parts, an airy drum and bass groove and, of course, flavorful synths. Ezung’s honeyed vocals also stand out as he offers catchy melodies and an effervescent performance. The Runway also put together a music video to accompany the song and worked with Kohima-based San Productions. In the clip, the band is seen performing the track in a black room while neon lights shine on them. “We were going for a dark grunge aesthetic, hence our clothing, and wanted a lot of shots that included our silhouettes,” says Ezung.
The band is currently aiming to put together live shows and are also eager to stay consistent with their releases from here on. Ezung says, “Overall, we are trying to put a mark on the music world by recording an album.”
