Tiger JK Makes a Powerful Statement in ‘Love Peace’

The veteran rapper and producer returns with a thought-provoking and empowering single tackling Asian hate

Jul 30, 2021

In an almost cinematic-like storyline fueled by nail-biting action sequences, South Korea’s most iconic name in hip-hop, Tiger JK, tackles racism in his latest music video, “Love Peace.” Through a tweet shared with his followers, the rapper revealed the video to be a snippet from his upcoming film. “The music video is sort of like a snippet of a movie I’m working on,” he shared. “It’s angry music on the surface but spiritual, if that makes sense.”

The music video sees Tiger JK playing the role of a diplomat who, despite being engulfed by a sea of reporters, remains unfazed. An eerie synth prompts the scene to shift to an abandoned building, where Tiger JK, now armored with an automated gun, seems to be seeking refuge. It is here the rapper makes his first poignant statement, “Bilingual poet, been poetic but no justice/ So fuck peace, if you see the devil, aim for the head.”

Staying true to hip-hop’s roots, Tiger JK’s unrepentant lyricism holds a mirror to the society as he further describes the ongoing unsettling events that surround the global Asian community, “Yellow skin, my people with bruises in our hearts/ Yellow skin, my people with blood boiling in our hearts.” Though the cinematography and flow may come from a place of vexation, Tiger JK soon finds himself in a meditative space where he desires nothing more than peace and unity, “I bring the soul from the circle to the center/ My people feel the flavor from the chi before they enter/ Peace love unity… or else.”

Tiger JK’s new single follows his 2020 single album kiss kiss bang bang, which featured R&B singer twlv. This year the hip-hop icon is all set to join 88rising’s 2021 edition of ‘Head In The Clouds.’ Headlined by other prominent Asian acts in the entertainment industry such as NIKI, Rich Brian, Joji and CL, the music festival will take place on November 6th and 7th in Pasadena, California. Other artists joining the lineup include DPR LIVE, DPR IAN, Day6’s eaJ, BIBI and more.
