Barely a month ago, one of the founders of Blue Frog, Ashutosh Phatak, announced the opening of True School of Music (TSM), a new multi-disciplinary music school, in Mumbai that aims to make music a viable career option in India. In the countdown to its launch (the school is slated to open on September 16th), Phatak had also discussed plans to host workshops and seminars to encourage admissions to TSM. Music Works, a three-day series of seminars, performances and panel discussions, is the first of such events kicked off by TSM.

The biggest draw of the event, which will take place at Blue Frog and The Barking Deer in South Mumbai between June 25th to 27th, is the roster of artists and music industry experts participating. The guest speakers include Sahej Bakshi aka Dualist Inquiry, EDM producer Nikhil Chinapa, Shillong blues band Soulmate’s Rudy Wallang, Mumbai hard core metal band Scribe’s Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, Mumbai electro rock group Shaa’ir+Func’s Monica Dogra,  Dhruv Ghanekar and radio host Brian Tellis among many others. Says Phatak, “It’s not just a talk, it’s an interesting concept where artists have a TED talk-like format. Besides sharing their life and work experiences, some of the artists will also take to the stage. Rudy (Wallang) will do a short seven-minute set with Tips (Soulmate); Sheldon (D’Silva), Gino (Banks) and Dhruv (Ghanekar) are doing this one track in three different genres and Monica (Dogra) has this presentation on stage presence.”

While artists will gain from panel discussions on EDM, rock and metal on day one, aspiring artist managers and composers will benefit from the program lined up on day two. Budding sound engineers or those exploring a career in the field, will find the concluding day of the seminar to be helpful. If you, like us, are wondering why Scribe frontman Krishnamoorthy is talking about the income possibilities of sound engineering, under a Woody Allen-esque talk titled ‘Take The Money And Run’, Pathak clarifies: “Vishwesh isn’t talking about sound engineering. Like most artists on the roster, he will talk about his experience as a vocalist of a band and as a session player with others.” While attendees can listen to the guest speakers at The Blue Frog, musicians can also head to The Barking Deer, which will host artist demonstrations.

Music Works seminar takes place between June 25th to 27th, 2013 at Blue Frog and The Barking Deer, Mumbai. Entry on first-come-first-serve basis. To register, email info@trueschool.com. Check the full the schedule below:
