The artist, sculptor and educator will take questions

Following the #CoverStoryConversation that took place earlier this month, Indian drag artist, sculptor and educator-activist Durga Gawde will go solo for a special Ask Me Anything (AMA) question session on June 27th, from 6 pm onwards.
A regular in music circles who has collaborated for art at music festivals including Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Gawde also regularly challenged gender norms and been one of India’s rising drag artists. They constantly educate and make clear ideas of gender fluidity and Gawde has always been one who is open about their dysphoria and struggles but also ever the bright-eyed optimist when it comes to breaking barrers and teaching the world about queer identities.
Gawde said in an Instagram post in March, ahead of a talk in Indore, “As I teach myself what it means to exist in the in-between, my attempts to memorialize the existence of the spectrum and call to attention the FACT that we are all sharing a human experience in human bodies in this world will keep on keeping on.”
A sculpture graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, Gawde created exhibitions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) Museum in Cambridge, the India Art Fair in New Delhi and more, over the last five years. As part of their AMA, Gawde will field questions on their experiences, their work, drag artistry and the LGBTQIA+ community at large.
Tune in to the session for free by registering on Insider.in. You can also place donations, proceeds of which will go to the Humsafar Trust’s COVID Relief Fund.
