TWICE Decodes The Formula Of Love in ‘Scientist’

Accompanied by a music video, the latest release forays in the South Korean group’s third full-length album, ‘Formula Of Love: O+T=<3’

K-pop hitmakers TWICE make their highly anticipated comeback with “Scientist.” The latest project marks the group’s first comeback after the release of their first official full-English single, “The Feels.”

Co-composed by English singer Anne-Marie, along with Melanie Fontana, Michael “Lindgren” Schulz, Tommy Brown, Steven Franks, and 72, “Scientist” is a blend between deep house and dance-pop, with the chorus brimming with Eighties synth beats.

Confident and entrancing, TWICE demand more than calculated risks while approaching love as they sing, “Being stuck in your head will do no good (no good)/ Quit wasting time measuring angles, finding answers/ Better make a move.” Wanting to be swept off their feet, “Scientist” is an SOS call from one who wishes their love interest would follow their heart instead of waiting for the right time; “Love ain’t a science, don’t need no license/ The more you sit there thinking, it’s a minus/ Don’t try to be a genius, why so serious?/ Follow your hеart (Ooh-ah)”

The music video is set in a futuristic lab and TWICE appear to be modern age scientists employing various mathematical formulae, chemicals and advanced technology to discover the formula of love. Matching the energy and vibrancy of the musical score, the video predominately stems from a pink and baby blue color palette, preserving the group’s long-established images of vibrant pop stars.

As the video concludes, all efforts turn fruitful with TWICE presenting their findings in a conference. Here we see the group display their impeccably timed choreographed moves as the audience (filled with the members) seem moved with the findings.

Formula of Love: O+T=<3 —TWICE’s third full-length album– is proving to be the group’s most successful release to date, setting a personal record for them. On November 10th, JYP Entertainment shared the news of the album surpassing 700,000 stock pre-orders–at least 200,000 units more than the number of stock pre-orders for their previous album, Taste Of Love.

The 17-track record includes the group’s first official full-English single, “The Feels” (available digitally only) and a Korean version of the track, available exclusively on the album’s CD. Providing fans with a varied listening experience, the album also houses “Scientist (R3HAB Remix)” — a reimagined version of the single by the Moroccan Dutch DJ and record producer, R3HAB. Formula of Love: O+T=<3 also features three sub-unit tracks– “Push & Pull” by Jihyo, Sana and Dahyun, “Hello” by Nayeon, Momo and Chaeyoung and “1,3,2” by Jeongyeon, Mina and Tzuyu.
