U2 Postpone ‘Jimmy Fallon’ Residency Following Bono Injury

"It looks like we will have to do our 'Tonight Show' residency another time," the band said. "We're one man down"

U2 was forced to postpone their upcoming, weeklong residency on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon after Bono underwent surgery for a cycling injury.

“It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time – we’re one man down,” the band wrote on their website. “Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We’re sure he’ll make a full recovery soon, so we’ll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.”

It’s unclear which groups will replace the band and when the Songs of Innocence rockers will return to The Tonight Show. A representative for U2 declined to elaborate on the incident past the band’s statement.

Last week, Fallon called on fans to submit videos of themselves lip-syncing “The Miracle (of Joey Ramone),” the first single off Innocence. A compilation of those videos would have been incorporated into one of the live performances next week.

U2 helped Fallon kick off his Tonight Show tenure, performing their charity single “Invisible” on the roof of Rockefeller Center and sitting down with the Roots for a unique rendition of their Oscar-nominated song “Ordinary Love.”

The delay means Metallica won’t have any competition during their upcoming residency on The Late Late Show with host Craig Ferguson this week. “What better way to celebrate Craig’s awesome tenure at CBS than to come and shake the rafters for a whole week,” drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone. “Nothing to sell, nothing to promote (except a reissue DVD)…purely hanging at Craig’s personal request. Bring it!”
