Vampire Weekend Explore Electronic Impulses in ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Step’

Hear the punchy 'Diane Young' and the subdued 'Steps'

Vampire Weekend have released two new tracks from their long-awaited album Modern Vampires of the City, “Diane Young” and “Step.”

“Diane Young” is a driving rock track with grungy guitars that devolve into electronic deluges over the course of its quick run. It finds frontman Ezra Koenig wailing, “No one knows what the future holds/ And it’s bad enough just getting old.”

The lyric video for the much more subdued “Step” uses shots of New York as its background. The track features Koenig cooing over subtle synths that stretch and twinkle while its steady drumbeat finds a comforting groove.

Modern Vampires of the City is set for release on May 7th in the U.S. on XL. The band is set to embark on a U.S. tour in April.
