Vasu Kainth Drops Breezy, Lo-Fi ‘Silsile’ EP

In the first two years that Kainth thrived as an independent artist, singer-songwriter Vasu Kainth shapeshifted from pop songs to EDM-style tunes as well as rock, rap and lo-fi. That was 2021 and while there have been ebbs and flows in Kainth’s journey, it delivered breakout songs like “Loriyan,” whose pop-rock treatment belies the artist’s multi-genre style.

Cut to 2024 and Kainth is back to emotive lo-fi with singles like “Mai Kaisa Hu” and his newly released debut EP Silsile. The four-track EP, released via T-Series, sits more in the carefree and unhurried space from the artist who first broke out in 2019 with the song “Sarphira.”

Laced with guitar licks, a few intricate nods to Indian classical music and of course, the unmistakable crackle added to all lo-fi songs, Silsile came together spontaneously according to Kainth. He says, “When I was working on the songs, the idea of putting them in an EP wasn’t really there.”

There’s the breezy opening song “Dobara” which has just a hint of tabla incorporated as Kainth sings about an idyllic, yet obsessed-in-love mindset. Guitars lead “Bahane,” a late-night jam that sees the artist make all kinds of pledges in the name of love. Wavy synths and club-friendly beats take over on “Na Jaane De,” a more future-pop bop that plays up Kainth’s vocal passion. Set to the ticking of a clock and a synth-bass line, horn sections and more, “Tujhe Lagega” allows the artist to take a deeper look at his wants.

The artist tells Rolling Stone India, “Silsile is an EP which tells four unique stories of love and life. All of these songs were written in different phases of my life! ‘Bahane’ captures the heartache of a love that can’t move forward. ‘Dobaara’ is tale of a man falling for the same woman over and over. ‘Na Jaane De’ explores the pain of unrequited love, while ‘Tujhe Lagega’ reflects on the pitfalls of materialism. Each song in Silsile resonates deeply, offering a touching and relatable musical experience. In fact, ‘Na Jaane De’ was written a year ago when I saw a friend of mine dealing with a one sided love situation.”

It was at the start of the year that T-Series announced they had signed Kainth as well as other rising singer-songwriters to release music via the major label.
