Straight after releasing his debut five-track EP Closer To Home two years ago, Mumbai singer-songwriter Vernon Noronha started compiling sketches for the melancholic “As The Ship Sails” to create a music video. The musician shares a story about long distance relationships with his latest offering, which also marks his 29th birthday.

The video is a collage of sketches Noronha drew over a period of 18 months. He says, “I thought about hiring a much more professional artist for this job, but I really wanted to link my style of sketching with my songs.” The musician’s love for Kid Lit Art definitely comes across through his sketches, “I dig into children story books whenever I’m at a library,” says Noronha.

“As The Ship Sails” follows the story of a couple who is separated and led different lives only to be reunited at the end. Noronha mentions that he has never done long distance, the singer-songwriter explains, “I wrote this on accounts of what my friends told me [about their experiences]. It was really stressful to even think about my loved one being miles and miles away from me without any physical contact.” He adds, “I lived the song through those testimonies.”

The vocalist-guitarist will launch the video at his birthday gig on August 23rd at Mumbai venue 3 Wise Monkeys. Accompanying Noronha is drummer Kristofor Mendonca (from erstwhile pop-rock group The Mavyns), keyboardist Joaquim Fernandes (from electro-rockers Laxmi Bomb), guitarist Oswin Telis (from pop-rock band Strike Three) and bassist Govind Gawli (previously part of rockers Daira). Noronha has also invited city-based musicians to be part of the gig such as fellow singer-songwriters Tejas Menon, Raghav Meattle, Hitesh Kumar and more. Noronha says, “I’m looking forward to the collaborations with these artists as most of them chose to do one of my songs. I’m really excited to hear their flavor on my tracks.”
