Victoria Monét’s Daughter Hazel, 2, Becomes the Youngest Grammy Nominee in History

The previous record was held by Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters, who was eight when she won a Grammy in 2002

Hazel Monet can put that on her mama! On Friday, Victoria Monét‘s two-year-old daughter made Grammy Awards history by becoming the youngest person nominated for an award, thanks to her featured vocals on “Hollywood,” her mom’s song with Earth, Wind & Fire.

In fact, Hazel earned two nominations: “Hollywood” is up for Best Traditional R&B song, and Victoria’s LP Jaguar II also received a nod in the Best R&B Album category. With the nomination, Hazel beats out the previous record held by Leah Peasall of the Peasall Sisters, who was credited for her work on the O Brother, Where Art Though? soundtrack when she was only eight years old. (At just two, Hazel’s Grammy nod beats the record by nearly six years.)

In the Best Traditional R&B Performance category, the Monéts’ “Hollywood” is nominated against Babyface and Coco Jones’ “Simple,” Kenyon Dixon’s “Lucky,” PJ Morton and Susan Carol’s “Good Morning,” and SZA’s “Love Language.”

On the list of youngest nominees, Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, now drops to the fifth-youngest nominee in history for her work on “Brown Skin Girl.” She was nearly nine years old when she earned that nomination.

The Monéts have much to celebrate this year after the singer earned a whooping seven total nominations. The R&B sweetheart is up for Best New Artist, “On My Mama” is among the nominees for Record of the Year, and Jaguar II is up for Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

The 2023 Grammys mark Monét’s first time being nominated as an artist. She was previously up for an award for her work with Ariana Grande, co-producing “7 Rings” and Thank U, Next.

Monét recently sat down with Rolling Stone and Kelly Rowland for the Musicians and Musicians issue and spoke about how much her daughter enjoys listening to her music.

“You know what? It’s really cool, though, for him to have that. Hazel’s not at the age where she can understand like, if I played Ariana [Grande]…. She knows Mommy, though. She knows my voice,” Monét told Rolling Stone. “It’s really sweet. She’s like, ‘I wanna hear Mama’s song.’ So I’m like, ‘Well, my songs, baby, are talking about smoking.’ Like, I need a Kidz Bop.”
