Vinny Lunar and Ange Blend English, Spanish and Telugu on ‘Sway’

The Indian-origin Australian artist teams up with the Barcelona-born singer-producer for a trilingual song that they describe as a ‘fusion fiesta’

Between Spain, Hyderabad and Sydney, artists Vinny Lunar and Ange cover a lot of ground on their latest song “Sway.”

The collaboration between Indian-origin, Australian artist Vinny Lunar and Barcelona-born, Sydney-based singer-producer Ange features three languages – English, Spanish and Telugu – in an effortless, buoyant blend. A press release says, “The track’s lush harmonies and dreamy textures create a sonic cocktail of classic bachata percussion, electric guitar riffs, and a driving beat that makes you want to move.”

There’s a bit of R&B that’s often heard in Vinny Lunar’s songs, along with incisive Spanish lyrics by Ange. The song about young love and desire and “embracing the present” was created with the intent of “transcending borders and celebrating the beauty of connection,” the press release adds.

There’s plenty more in the mix sonically apart from bachata rhythms, including jersey club, jazz and pop. Ange says in a statement about the song, “From the moment I heard Vinny’s demo, I knew this track was special. I loved the dreamy yet powerful fusion of genres. When I sang my verse in Spanish, it felt so natural. It was a great way to bring cultures together and give a nod to the genre’s origins in this reimagined bachata track.”

Vinny Lunar adds in his statement, “I wanted to bring my South Indian roots into my music. I grew up hearing Telugu at home and was inspired by the romanticism of Tollywood films. The phrase ‘Nuvve nene, arre raave raave‘ means ‘You are me, come my way,’ which represents the unity that dance creates.”

The song marks the first release of 2024 for both Ange and Vinny Lunar. In 2022, they each had career-shaping song collections – Lunar released his five-song Chauffeur while Ange had put out Una Vez Mas. Previously known for Telugu-inflected songs like “Prema” from 2021, Lunar also interpolated Bollywood Nineties hits for songs like “Hai Rama” with producer Low Beams off Chauffeur.

Up next, the Indian-origin artist is slated to release a song called “Wave” with Zimbabwean-origin Australian artist Moody in July.
