W.O.R.M.E Festival Finale To Be Held In New Delhi

The two-day fest will see rock, metal and electronica acts from across the country on December 14th and 15th

West zone finalists The Beatroute from Mumbai

Coming under one roof this month are 30 artists representing the three most popular genres in the music scene ”“ rock, metal and electronica. The first edition of the Nokia Lumia W.O.R.M.E [World of Rock, Metal, Electronica] fest is slated to take place in Delhi on December 14th and 15th, with The Raghu Dixit Project headlining the opening day of the event. Day one will also feature performances by five regional winning bands including Delhi prog rockers The Uncertainty Principle, Kolkata’s fusion act Ashes in Flames, Hyderabad thrash/death metallers Perpetual Void and Mumbai alt rock band The Beatroute.

Perpetual Void’s drummer P. Swaroop Kumar says they represent metal among the W.O.R.M.E fest finalists. “We were also the only metal band playing at the South zone auditions held in Bengaluru,” he adds. The band, which formed in February this year, will play their first gig in Delhi as part of the fest. Their set will include a cover of American death metal legends Death and originals such as “Ministry Of Death,” “Apostasy,” and “Blitzkrieg.” Says Kumar, “”˜Blitzkrieg’ is one of my favorite songs. I remember at one of our gigs in Hyderabad, the moment our vocalist started singing the song, the moshpit also started.”

There is no pressure involved for the local winners The Uncertainty Principle. The band’s guitarist Nishant Kurup says, “It’s better in a way [to play in Delhi]. We get a lot more support and our friends will come and watch us.” The prog rockers will be performing an all-original set at the Nokia Lumia W.O.R.M.E fest, including “The Question,” “Forever,” “Stigma,” and “The Orb.” The winning band goes home with Rs 50,000 worth of sponsored prizes. The judges for the event remain reserved and undisclosed, which is a strange choice for a festival this big.

The second day of the festival promises to live up to its name with 16 performers confirmed to perform, and more expected to be added to the lineup. Delhi bands headlining the fest are alt rocker veterans Menwhopause and popular hard rock band Them Clone. Manning the DJ consoles are Ashvin Mani Sharma [from electronica act Jalebee Cartel] and Brit-Indian house producer Anil Chawla. Other big names heading to the capital from across the country include Kolkata alt rock band Cassini’s Division,  Mumbai thrash metallers Devoid and groove metal band Zygnema, Pune djent band Noiseware as well as Mumbai electronic artist Kini Rao among others.
