The Blackstratblues axeman covers Weather Report, Gary Moore and Led Zeppelin
With Mumbai blues-rockers Blackstratblues canceling their gig at the city-based antiSOCIAL yesterday due to the Coronavirus pandemic, guitarist Warren Mendonsa has instead upped his Instagram’s IGTV content over the last week with his series Living Room Jams.
The group’s talisman has kept fans swooning to guitar wails, licks and tricks as he churns out sublime tones and techniques from his trusty Fender Stratocaster. In the last couple of days Mendonsa has released clips of him performing Weather Report’s funky “Black Market,” Gary Moore’s rock ballad “The Loner” and Led Zeppelin’s bluesy “Since I’ve Been Loving You.”
In a social media post, Mendonsa says of the British rock band’s track, “To me, Zeppelin were their most effective when they were channeling the blues and taking it to new places. They always managed to take the listener on a journey to new places. It’s hard to capture [vocalist Robert] Plant’s expressiveness on guitar, but it’s always fun playing a slow blues with a twist.”
The musician also released a behind the scenes clip of his rig at home to give fans a closer look at how he achieves his sonic excellence. With the live music scene shut down temporarily like everything else in the world, it’s great to see artists like Mendonsa fulfilling our music cravings. We can’t wait to hear what he’s got lined up next for Living Room Jams.
