Watch A.R. Rahman on Rolling Stone ICONS: ‘Embrace Your Flaws as Unique Traits’:

India’s greatest music visionary discusses creativity and its relationship with technology in this new show presented in association with JBL and Beatoven.ai

A.R. Rahman might just be living his most audacious time as a creative visionary right now. In the past year alone, the Academy and Grammy-winning composer made his debut as a film producer with the feature film 99 Songs, mentored the pioneering all-woman Firdaus Orchestra in Dubai, collaborated with the legendary Shekhar Kapur on the musical Why and also premiering his pathbreaking VR film Le Musk at Cannes this summer.

“I am looking, in my own ways, if I can connect the dots” says Rahman on Rolling Stone ICONS, our newly launched digital show in association with JBL and Beatoven.ai. In an exclusive conversation with Nirmika Singh (Executive Editor, Rolling Stone India) filmed at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, the iconic musician shares what he considers the tenets of creativity and craftsmanship. He says, “To be yourself is to realise your full potential, to embrace your flaws and the pluses of your being. Find what makes your unique, and if you go deep into that, you will find the answer.”

Watch Rolling Stone ICONS featuring A.R. Rahman:

Rolling Stone ICONS honors the incredible journeys of some of India’s greatest contemporary musicians. The series, which premiered on World Music Day, also features composers Amit Trivedi and Salim Merchant, pop sensation Armaan Malik and hip-hop star Raja Kumari. Says Nirmika Singh, “The show is a unique gateway into the processes and beliefs that legendary musicians hold close to their artistry, and the inaugural episode shines a light on the tenet that creativity requires so much grit, dedication and passion apart from talent.”

The partners for Rolling Stone ICONS, JBL and Beatoven.ai, are rooted in music and represent two fascinating facets of the industry. JBL has powered global milestone events ranging from Woodstock to the Olympics to the Grammys for the past 75 years, while Beatoven.ai is a newly launched revolutionary platform that creates unique royalty-free sounds for new-age content creators.
