Watch a Suicidal Man Run From a Hired Killer in ‘Afsos’ Trailer

Predator and prey navigate their interests in this black comedy/thriller series

Jan 10, 2020

Gulshan Devaiah as Nakul in 'Afsos.'

Amazon Prime Video dropped the trailer for its first release of 2020, Afsos, earlier this evening. The upcoming black comedy/thriller follows a suicidal man (Gulshan Devaiah) and his quest for death that takes a regretful turn in the form of a relentless assassin (Heeba Shah) who wont’t let him live.

The clip opens mundanely enough with a man lying on Mumbai’s railway tracks. He gazes pensively at the starless night sky while the horn of an incoming local train flares. “Ek waqt tha jab mujhe lagta tha ki main iss duniya mein sabse mehatvapurna insaan hoon (There was a time when I thought myself to be the most important human being in the world,)” says Nakul (Devaiah). This is his 11th suicide attempt. Frustrated by the repeated sessions with his therapist (Anjali Patil), he enlists the help of two assassins (with a rate card!) who weigh the morality of killing a suicidal individual, ultimately deciding to pass the buck to Upadhyay (Shah), a cold-blooded assassin who is relentless once she sniffs the trail of her target. A cat and mouse race ensues in the city that never sleeps as the predator and prey navigate their interests.

Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, who served as the assistant director for films like the black comedy-drama Dev.D (2009) and crime-drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), the eight-episode series will release on January 17th. Afsos is written by comedian Anirban Dasgupta (who also plays a cameo role in the series), Sourav Ghosh and Dibya Chatterjee.
