Although he’s often known as a man of action, tact and a bit of humor, actor Sharib Hashmi also has an introspective singing voice within him, which he explores in his performance of “Baat Niklegi.”
The adaptation of ghazal great Jagjit Singh’s song “Baat Niklegi Toh Door Talak” is released by Hashmi — known for his roles in shows such as The Family Man, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire — as his singing debut. Aided by producers Zohaib Khawar and Suniel Khawar, there’s an ambient treatment given to the poetic performance, doused in subtle string arrangements.
Hashmi said in a statement, “This cover holds a particular place in my heart because I’ve always loved soft tone ghazals and thought it would be a great idea to turn them into a beautiful cover. That’s how I came up with this lovely directorial, and now that I’ve given it my own voice, I truly hope I’ve done justice to Jagjit Singh ji‘s wonderful creation.”
The song is accompanied by a music video shot in the United Arab Emirates by Yasin Khan, as Hashmi is seen in a studio space as well as outdoors amongst the desert sands. On the screen front, the actor was previously seen in the film Pagglait and 2022 will see him in movies and series such as Dhaakad, Six Suspects, Mission Majnu and more.
