Adele took a break from smashing sales records and breaking ticketing sites to join James Corden in a special, London-taped version of The Late Late Show ’s Carpool Karaoke. Over the course of the 15-minute segment, the pair sing Adele hits alongside tracks by the Spice Girls and Nicki Minaj. Between songs, Adele shares some humorous stories about being Adele.
The pair start with Adele’s “Hello,” with Corden’s vocal acrobatics stunning the 25 singer. “That was amazing,” Adele says, who then reveals that she played the drums on “Hello.” “It”s like I’ve always said: You’re the female Phil Collins,” Corden jokes.On their ride through London, Adele also tells an amusing anecdote about getting drunk during the long Christmas weekend and ”” after singing her own “Someone Like You” ”” how the first time she was “truly heartbroken” was when Ginger Spice left the Spice Girls, sparking a “Wannabe” singalong.
“I want my fans to come on a journey with me, and I feel like one of the reasons I named my albums after my age as well is that they’re sort of like Polaroids almost of my life at that time,” Adele said of her new LP, adding that 25 would be the last album named after her age, following 19 and 21 . “I believe in trilogies.” Corden says, “I want one to be like 77 . ‘It was all bullshit / Leave me alone / It’s just me and my cats .'”
At the 10-minute mark, Corden reveals that Adele has a secret skill: rapping. With that, he cranks up Nicki Minaj’s molten verse from Kanye West’s “Monster” and lets Adele rhyme in unison, earning the respect of Minaj who was watching The Late Late Show :
