Watch Amy Winehouse as New York Tourist in Deleted ‘Amy’ Scene

Singer rides escalators, describes WWF Restaurant in jubilant pre-'Back to Black' Manhattan visit

After a critically acclaimed theatrical run, the Amy Winehouse documentary Amy will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on December 1st containing unreleased bonus footage and other special features not included in the film. The home release will be accompanied by 17 “previously unseen scenes,” as director Asif Kapadia calls them, from Winehouse’s personal archives, including this two-minute-long clip showing snippets of the singer’s pre-Back to Black visit to New York City.

In the clip, a carefree Winehouse and her friend and former manager Nick Shymansky are seen having fun in New York. The pair pretend to be Russian tourists on an escalator and narrate a cab ride as they drive past the WWF Restaurant that formerly resided in the Paramount Theatre building on 43th Street and Broadway. “The wrestling restaurant. They get all the superstars in there and then the superstars get drunk, and they buy drinks, and they get people all rowdy. They get the crowds in,” Winehouse says before noting, “Chyna’s been there.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kapadia revealed that he knew little about the singer before creating a film about her early life, rise to stardom and swift downfall. Winehouse passed away from alcohol toxicity in July 2011 at the age of 27. “What I learned was what a creative, intelligent, funny human being she was,” Kapadia said of the documentary. “I didn’t know any of that. I don’t know if anyone did.”
