Watch Arogya Pair the Gothic with the Grandiose in ‘Desire’ Music Video

The Assam-origin rockers have released the second single off their upcoming album ‘Supernatural’

Just one look at the album artwork for North East rock band Arogya’s new album Supernatural tells us all things horrifying and dark are afoot in their thematic universe next.

They unveiled just that with their title track and its music video in November. Now, Arogya has released their second single “Desire,” accompanied by a stomping, visually-rich music video directed by Janice L.T. Teh (also the band’s manager and lyricist for “Desire”) and vocalist Rainjong Lepcha.

The band says in a statement, “Have you ever had such strong intense feelings of wanting, a deep aching of longing, a bottomless hole of emptiness in your heart that no one else but a special one could fill it? This song is about that passionate craving for that one in your dreams beyond your grasp, igniting a fire so fierce inside that will make you defy destiny and challenge fate.”

The Supernatural phase of Arogya marks a few shifts, while still retaining their signature “dark rock” and synth-infused rock sound that occasionally bleeds into metal spaces in the vein of Linkin Park and others. With a new logo (designed by Tri Valluya of Visual Defects) and sartorial choices coming their way via fashion designer Yana Ngoba Chakpu, Arogya present a distinct visual identity on “Desire,” which also features recently recruited drummer Nishant Hagjer in an acting role.

Incorporating elements of synth-rock and power ballads, the band says that the music video “warns one not to fall for the wrong attraction, or your dreams will transform into a terrible nightmare.”

Hagjer, who joined in September this year, is among the newer members alongside guitarist Pawan Damai. There’s a shift in personnel roles with the addition of Hagjer and Damai, with drummer Rui X taking over percussions (he’s seen thumping away in the “Desire” video) and Deadnoxx handling samples and synth.

Arogya, who are working with German artist Chris Harms from gothic metal band Lord of the Lost on Supernatural, are releasing their follow-up to the 2021 album Genesis via Berlin label Out of Line Music. At least three more singles are expected off the album, including a song called “Queen of the Damned” featuring Harms on vocals.
