Barefaced Liar [BFL] waste no time in kicking up a riot with their comeback single “Mind Over Matter.” The title track of their upcoming full-length album, “Mind Over Matter” unleashes a massive pop-rock sound that is guaranteed to get you grooving. Although the band itself is now a duo act comprising vocalist/guitarist Sumant ”˜Bala’ Balakrishnan and guitarist Akshay Chowdhry, the new song features former bandmates, drummer Suyash Gabriel [of rock band Grammy Winning Effort] and bassist Akshay Johar [of rock outfit The Doppler Effect].

Says Balakrishnan about the new release, “It’s been a while [since we released our music], and we’ve worked on it [the album] really hard, especially over the past two years. It is a different sound, but also a more mature sound.”

Shot in-studio against a backdrop of retro-inspired lights, the video shows Balakrishnan going all out while Chowdry reaches for the high notes as he sings “Go/Let the energy flow/And I’m leaving it all behind.”

Here’s another fun fact about the video: watch close enough and you’ll spot bassist Abhishek Kamdar [of Mumbai-based thrash act Devoid] and Hamza Kazi [of Mumbai prog rockers Coshish]. Ask how this Mumbai-Delhi collaboration came about, and Balakrishnan says, “At the time we were recording [November 2013], it was a four-piece band which included Suyash and Akshay. Now however, we’re a two piece band. Since we were in Bombay to shoot the video and it was all very last-notice, we asked Hamza and Abhishek, and luckily they agreed to star in the video.”

Barefaced Liar released their self-titled debut album in 2010, establishing a classic rock sound with tracks like “Toe The Line” and “Mirage.” The four-piece band went on hiatus soon after, only to announce a second album that will showcase the band’s pop/electronic leanings.

Mind Over Matter will also see BFL return to work with Zorran Mendonsa, who had produced their debut album. The band has also roped in renowned Swedish producer and engineer Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with the likes of Swedish metallers Opeth, American groove metal act Lamb Of God, and closer to home, hardcore band Scribe, for the new record. BFL will be releasing another video, titled “All I Have” alongside the album release, slated for October 2015.
