Watch Bengaluru Rock Band Another Kind Of Green Detail Young Love on ‘Hey Polly!’

The song is off their upcoming debut album 'Plain Good Feeling,' out early next year

A teenage love triangle gone wrong, Bengaluru rock band Another Kind of Green (AKOG) mined their own experiences in relationships and crushes to write their debut studio release, “Hey Polly!”

Vocalist Shikha Chandrashekhar says about the high energy rock tune, “We sat around and shared stories of heartbreak from our teen years! It was one of the most hilarious jam sessions ever, but our guitarist Chethan [Kadoor]’s story really struck a chord and eventually, a revamped version of that made its way into the song.”

Although the band has been around since 2016, transitioning from the college band circuit to playing regular club venues in Bengaluru, AKOG have leaned more towards releasing live performance videos of their songs rather than heading into the studio to record. The vocalist explains that it was partly circumstantial, the live videos on their YouTube channel have helped hype their performance game and has given them a fanbase to whom they can now introduce their forthcoming album. Plain Good Feeling, set to release in April 2020, will be preceded by three more studio singles releasing between December and February. Chandrashekhar says they picked “Hey Polly!” as their lead single because it had “a lot of dynamic shifts.” The vocalist adds, “Polly is an emotion and a representative of the strong woman who essentially needs none but herself and her passion for music.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Ayush Giri and co-shot by Armaan Mishra, matches up to the lyrical theme. A protagonist named Poulomi is an interest to two best friends, Vignesh and Jonas. As the plot reaches its boiling point, Poulomi decides to take matters into her own hands.

With the song recorded and mixed by drummer Sanket Chakraborty and mastered by Kochi recording engineer Vivek Thomas, AKOG are plotting more shows alongside the singles planned for release. Chandrashekhar says, “While it’s in the early stages of planning, we’re looking forward to a tour that may materialize soon as well.”
