The flirty and summery track was co-written by Ariana Grande and will feature on BLACKPINK's upcoming LP
Pop superstars BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez have released their brand new single “Ice Cream.” The track is off the group’s upcoming debut LP which drops on October 2nd. The artists had teased the track on social media for several weeks prior to its release, treating fans to colorful posters and a video teaser which caused major excitement yesterday.
In the music video, Gomez and the members of BLACKPINK roam a colorful, pastel world filled with ice cream. There’s a distinct vintage pin-up feel to the set and styling as they bike through the little ice cream town, play tennis and hang out by an ice cream truck. The clip was filmed in the U.S. and South Korea and clocked in over three million views within the first two hours of its release on YouTube.
“Ice Cream” was produced by Teddy Park, 24, Tommy Brown and Mr. Franks, and co-written by Gomez and pop stars Ariana Grande and Victoria Monet. The lyrics to the trap-pop track are flirty and filled with innuendos, as Gomez begins with, “Come a little closer ’cause you’re looking thirsty/ I’ma make it better, sip it like a Slurpee”, while on the chorus they sing, “Diamonds on my wrist, so he call me ice cream/ You can double dip ’cause I know you like me/ Ice cream chillin’ chillin’.” Although mostly in English, the track does feature a Korean verse from rapper Lisa.
The song is the second single off the girl group’s upcoming debut LP, BLACKPINK: The Album and follows their hit single “How You Like That” which dropped in July and previously held the record for most viewed music video in 24 hours on YouTube (recently surpassed by BTS with “Dynamite.”) Comprising 10 tracks, the full-length studio album will be BLACKPINK’s first since their 2016 debut. Earlier this year, the quartet also collaborated with Lady Gaga on “Sour Candy,” a track featured on the latter’s album Chromatica which released in May. A third single from the album is set to release sometime in September.
“Ice Cream” is Gomez’s first comeback after dropping her third studio album Rare in January, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The singer-songwriter has also been hosting a new cooking show titled Selena + Chef. Filmed the while in self-isolation due to COVID-19, the show features Gomez being remotely taught to cook by chefs from across the world.
