The track is the lead single off the South Korean group's first studio album, 'The Album'
South Korean group BLACKPINK dropped their first studio album earlier this morning. Led by the single “Lovesick Girls,” The Album is the quartet’s first full-length LP since their debut in 2016.
In the music video for “Lovesick Girls,” the four members of BLACKPINK–Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé–lament the end of a relationship as they flit through past memories of themselves with a man they were dating. The members wander through broody city nightscapes or cause destruction on various solo sets as they mourn and rage about the breakup. At the end the quartet come together and drive to a scenic meadow in a convertible to comfort each other and celebrate their friendship. The video is interspersed with vibrant clips of the members performing choreography together or spending time together at a diner.
Co-produced by David Guetta, Teddy Park, R.Tee and Jennie, the track is a mix of pop-rock and EDM, highlighting the angst of the lyrics with bursts of electric guitar over the chorus with lyrics that declare, “Yeah, we were born to be alone/But why we still looking for love?” The track also marks the first songwriting credits for Jennie and Jisoo.
The video for “Lovesick Girls” premiered during the YouTube Originals 16-episode music series Released and follows BLACKPINK’s previous releases from The Album including “Ice Cream” featuring Selena Gomez and “How You Like That.” The 10-track album also features a collaboration with rapper Cardi B on “Bet You Wanna.”
