Watch Bloo Confront Loneliness in ‘Hug Me Tight’
In his latest single, the South Korean rapper and producer aches to be comforted and accepted for who he is
South Korean rapper, songwriter and producer Bloo’s latest release “Hug Me Tight” digs deep into heartbreak and its resulting loneliness with its lyrics and cinematic music video.
Written and co-composed by Bloo, “Hug Me Tight” is an acoustic trap blend with an Eighties-inspired synth beat which keeps the focus on the singer-songwriter and rapper’s vocals. It’s a sound that Bloo has built his brand around in recent years, bringing to mind his previous hit tracks “Downtown Baby” and “Come and Kiss Me,” both tracks establishing a different tone with subtleties but also dealing with love, and it’s a signature style he revisits with “Hug Me Tight.” In the lyrics for his latest single, Bloo aches to be comforted and accepted for who he is as he asks, “Hug me tight when I’m tired and asleep/ Hold the words you want to say/ Let go of the things I’ve done wrong/ Just for today,/ Take me as I am.”
The music video emphasises the loneliness in the lyrics and Bloo’s urge to find someone to just be himself with. The video uses stunning rotating aerial shots to switch between scenes of Bloo lying in bed alone, to lying in bed in the embrace of different women. As each shot changes, a different woman lies in bed with him, simply hugging him and holding him close, but the bed keeps ‘rotating’ until he’s finally left alone again. As he sits and contemplates his situation, rain begins to pour around him and the video finally ends with him completely alone on a massive bed.
“Hug Me Tight” marks Bloo’s first solo release since his 2021 EP Moon and Back. Earlier in 2021, the rapper and songwriter had also dropped his debut LP, Bloo In Wonderland 2, which topped Rolling Stone India‘s ’10 Best Korean Hip-Hop and R&B Albums of 2021′ roundup.
