Watch BLOO’s Hazy, Nostalgic Video for ‘Girl in New York’

The single leads the South Korean rapper's latest album, 'Moon and Back'

South Korean rapper BLOO explores frustration, intoxication and longing in his latest release, “Girl in New York.”

Leading the rapper’s eight-track album, Moon And Back, “Girl in New York” sees BLOO take a retro, Eighties-influenced rock-R&B approach with rhythmic guitar riffs and synth. Expressing his desire to rekindle a lost relationship with a girl in New York, BLOO seems to have been overcome by a paralyzing amount of frustration over not hearing back from the one who stole his heart; “Girl in New York/ She my baby/ Call me back/ Where you at.”

While love and frustration are highlighted lyrically, BLOO visually expresses a deep state of intoxication induced by prolonged periods of longing. In the music video, we see the rapper sitting alone at a bar, numbing his pain with alcohol. To highlight the effect this has on him, the cinematography mimics his disoriented state of mind with hazy, almost blurry effects, heightening the emotional quotient on the track. Throughout the clip we also see BLOO switching between reality and hallucination, as he subconsciously visualizes a silhouette of his lover. Unable to get through to her, BLOO rides solo on the streets, desperately searching for someone before finding himself sitting at the bar once again.

Moon and Back is the follow-up to BLOO’s June 2021 LP, Bloo In Wonderland 2. Based on the intriguing fact that ‘the amount of heartbeats in one’s lifetime is enough to drive a car from the Earth to the moon and back,’ the album brings forward eight tracks in total, including a jazz rendition of the lead single, “Girl In New York.”
