Watch: When Chai Met Toast’s Kaleidoscopic New Video ‘Fight’
The Kochi/Bengaluru folk/indie band narrate a compelling story about the independent spirit
It’s that time of year when social media timelines are flooded with Independence Day tributes and covers released by artists from across the country. Among all the clichéd stuff that we witnessed in the past two weeks, Bengaluru/Kochi folk/indie rockers When Chai Met Toast’s new single “Fight” stands out among the most heartfelt.
With a music video that puts the spotlight on shiny people (accompanied with equally glimmering, uplifting music), “Fight” is only timed in its release with the historic day, but avoids any other banalities. Promoted with a pre-release set of shows in Bengaluru and Pune earlier this month, the song is held together by vocalist Ashwin Gopakumar’s sing-along vocal melodies, a horn section and bright rhythms.
Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Ganesh Raj, the video features four different creative minds ”“ a boxer, a painter, a supermodel and a mime artist ”“ as they overcome their fears and struggles to find joy. The single is a follow-up to their debut EP The Joy of Little Things (which released earlier this year), and band plan to promote it with shows in Thiruvananthapuram, Goa, New Delhi and Chennai in the coming months.
