South Korean girl group CLC made their comeback earlier today with the single “Helicopter.” The release was accompanied by a dynamic music video.

In the clip, the seven members try their hand at a futuristic and elegant concept, roaming through otherworldly sets lit up by neon and strobes. There’s an elegance and mystery to the clip as the girls gaze at the camera with confidence or float through space while draped in haute couture. The video is largely choreography-focused, giving CLC the opportunity to show off their penchant for dynamic choreography. Dark, sexy and sleek, the visuals are reminiscent of the group’s previous releases like “Hobgoblin” and “Black Dress.”

The most distinctive element of “Helicopter” is the lazy drum and rolling bass at the chorus, paired with pop synth that builds momentum for the vocalists and rappers to take off on each verse. CLC’s vocal line delivers smooth, impressive soaring harmonies and adlibs over the bridge, creating a fascinating contrast with the gritty bass. The track’s lyrics are about having faith in oneself to conquer any obstacles and soar above them as though in a helicopter; “I’m spinning now/And I can finally see thosе hidden places/I know that we’ll make it to the top/Just following our heart/We just gotta have a little patience, yeah… I go up, helicopter/Never give up like a pilot/Come with me, ain’t afraid of no danger/I got you, you got me and we gon’ rise up/Helicopter never give up.”

“Helicopter” marks CLC’s first comeback after a year, following their September 2019 single “Devil.” The group also released an English language version of the track.
